San Cristóbal, Alta Verapaz is approximately 4600 feet above sea level. The total surface area of this zone is of 2.584 kilometers square which represents the 2,37% of the total surface of the country.

The weather is spring like all year round.  It is located on a scenic lake.  Besides coffee production San Cristóbal boasts a shoe factory that produces shoes for export.

From Guatemala City the paved highway winds downhill to arid El Rancho at about 1000 feet above sea level before climbing through the cloud forest of the Biotopo, a national park where one can sometimes see the Guatemala national bird, the quetzal.

The market is located just around the corner from the Central Park.  Agricultural workers from all around bring their produce to sell at the San Cristóbal market.  It is full of fresh fruit and vegetables year round.
